GIVING AND RECEIVING A REBUKE
2 Corinthians 7:2 – 7:16
When you need to say something: 2 Corinthians 7:2-10
1) Praying first and expressing your sincere love can avoid some wrong turns.
2) Don’t let the issue fester inside of you - writing something down can help with clarification.
3) Make sure you have the actual facts.
4) Calmly explain your perspective: don’t be exaggerated or overly negative.
5) Realize it could be good and hurt at the same time - don’t be afraid to go there.
6) A rebuke gives an opportunity to set someone free.
When you need to hear something: 2 Corinthians 7: 11-16
1) Kindly ask if you’ve heard it correctly.
- Is there any validity to the rebuke?
- Is your pride getting in the way?
- Is it a blind spot or stubbornness?
2) Find out what help is available for deeper issues.
3) Change as much and as quickly as possible.
4) Stay out of unhealthy sorrow.
