FINDING CLARITY IN GRAY AREAS

1 Corinthians 8:1-9:15, 10:23-33

Gray Area Examples:
1) Eating (8:1-8)
2) Marriage (9:5)
3) Money (9:7-11)
4) Missions (9:12-14)

Clarifying Questions:
1) Is it permissible? (10:23)
2) Is it beneficial? (10:23)
3) Does it cause someone to stumble? (8:9-13)
4) Is it taking control of you? (6:12)
5) Is it done in faith and in step with the Holy Spirit? (10:25-28)

Prevailing Principles:
1) Don’t look down upon someone with different convictions. (10:29-30)
2) Use your freedom to spread the good news about Jesus. (9:12, 10:27)
3) Look beyond your own desires; choose what brings peace and edification. (10:24)
4) Bringing glory to God is a solid indicator of a good decision. (10:31)

Take Home:
Not everything is cut and dry; let God’s wisdom help you excel in gray areas.
